Outdoor Education:
We are proud to offer outdoor education programs to help residents get in touch with their natural environment! The programs are aimed at teaching our community about their natural habitat including native plants and animals and the many benefits they provide us.

Nature Center: The outdoor Nature Center is the hub for our Outdoor Education programs. The site is located at Camarillo Grove Park, 6968 E. Camarillo Springs Road (101 Freeway Exit - Camarillo Spring Rd.) Map  The Nature Center features:

  • Learn about local ecosystems, plants, and animals with 26 Braille plate interpretive signs
  • Climb on ant hill, log and boulder-shaped playground equipment
  • Experience how water interacts with gravity and barriers in a water table 
  • Hiking trails feature old growth, natural, local vegetation 
  • Picnic facilities available for rent for groups 15 to 300
  • Only nature-based park in Camarillo
  • Perfect location for a school field trip, private parties and events

    Birds of Winter Hike (Part I)

    Bird Museum Tour
    Tuesday, Feb 13, 2-3:15pm
    At the Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology, Camarillo. Did you know we have a world class bird museum right here in Camarillo? Join us as we explore it and learn about a wide variety of birds both local and foreign. Tour will be led by knowledgeable museum staff. Meet at the museum. Ages: All Cost: $13. REGISTER NOW >

    Diabetes Wellness Hike
    Saturday, March 24, 10-11:30am

    At Camarillo Grove Park. Come and learn about the many positive wellness impacts that hiking can have on managing Diabetes both physically and emotionally. Meet others managing Diabetes. Ages: All Cost: $12REGISTER NOW >

    Horseback Riding
    Saturdays, Jan. 6-27, 12-1pm / Feb. 3-24, 12-1pm / March 3-24, 12-1pm

    Learn how to go get the horse, halter, lead, tie, brush, clean feet, tack up English or Western, mount, and ride. Then dismount, untack, feed carrots and return to corral. Mandatory boot with smooth sole and heel, your helmet or ours, jeans or breeches. Bring water and a jacket. $25 supply fee. Ages: 6-50 Cost: $192. REGISTER NOW >

    Painting Nature From Life
    Mary-Gail King, Resident Artist at Studio Channel Islands, will help you learn how to paint watercolor sketches of natural objects from life. There is nothing like slowing down long enough to look at nature. We’ll use watercolors and pen or pencil. $10 supply fee due to instructor. Ages: 8+ Cost: $35. REGISTER NOW >

    Succulent Wreath Making
    Monday, 5-7pm: Jan 8, Feb 2 or March 5

    Go home with a living work of art! Learn how to create a beautiful, living succulent wreath. All supplies, including succulents, will be provided. Wear clothes that may get dirty and closed toed shoes. $5 supply fee. Ages: 12+ Cost: $53. REGISTER NOW >
