Specialty Aquatic Classes

A variety of different specialty classes are offered at the Aquatic Center on a year-round basis. Below is a list of current classes. All classes are held at Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center, located at 1030 Temple Ave, Camarillo. If you have any questions, please call us at (805) 987-8198.

CPR/AED/First Aid Adult & Pediatric (ONLINE)

Ages: 15+     Cost: $40     Instructor: PVRPD staff     
This ONLINE course is designed to teach students to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants and to use an AED. Standard First Aid will teach you the basics on how to deal with hot/cold emergencies, shock, stroke awareness, and injuries such as cuts, bruises, chemical burns, heat burns and much more.

Lifeguard Training 

Ages: 15+     Cost: $254     Instructor: Ann Wright
Upon successful completion of this class you will be certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard with Title 22. The following prerequisites will be tested at the pool on the first day of class: 300-yard swim, tread water without the use of hands, retrieve a 10 lb. object from depth of 7+ feet, and other required skills. Participants will be required to complete 7 hours of online work in addition to completing all water skills. A $43 fee is due to the instructor at the start of the course and includes digital books, online
coursework and certification fees.

Water Safety Instructor

Ages: 16+     Cost: $254     Instructor: Ann Wright
Students will learn to teach courses and presentations from the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program. Prerequisite: swim 25 yards front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly; tread water for 2 minutes. Corse includes: approx. 7 hours of online training, 23 hours skill training, plus written exam. A $39 fee is due to the American Red Cross prior to the start of the course. Instructor will contact you regarding the fee and online activities.

Springboard Diving

Instructor: Ann Wright
Beginner: Introduction to springboard diving, guide students in proper stretching, warm-up, basic tumbling for coordination& balance. Will learn proper entry & coordination and advance to flips and back dives. Divers should wear shorts and t-shirt over suit for stretching/tumbling. Rash Guards & wetsuits are okay to keep warm. Any skill level accepted. Pre-Requisite: Must be able to swim 10 yards and tread water for 30 seconds. 
Advanced: Pre-requisite: Divers should be able to perform forward dive, back dive, and forward flip. Will learn more advanced dives and entries and will continue with multiple flips and twisting dives. Instructor has over 40 years of teaching beginner and elite (Olympic) level divers.

PADI – Bubblemakers

Ages: 8-10     Cost: $54     Instructor: Robert Inglis
Experience scuba diving under the direct care and supervision of a PADI Pro. Kids take their first breaths underwater in water shallower than 6 feet and learn about and use scuba diving equipment as well as have lots of fun. This is not a certification course.

PADI – Discover Scuba

Ages: 10+     Cost: $54     Instructor: Robert Inglis
Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you. To sign up for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must be at least 10 years old. This is not a certification course.

Open Water Certification

Get your scuba diving certification with the PADI Open Water Diver course. More class details and times available online. Supply Fee: $75 Workbook & $155 Dive Boat.
